FK Senica - Club Brugge KV 1:0 (0:0)
Slovak Senica beat Club Brugge 1-0 in a match during the first half of which only the Belgians shot on target. They however, could have taken the lead several times: at 10 minutes into the game Van Vaerenbergh had an opportunity at the six-yard line but his shot was saved by the keeper. It took not more than two minutes for Brugge to have another chance, with Van Camp’s 8-meter header slightly wide of the post. At the middle of the first half Van Den Abeelé received a magnificent pass, took a shot from 9 metres but Senica’s keeper produced a spectacular save. The final minutes of the first half however, were clearly dominated by the Slovak squad but all they managed to achieve was a corner kick, with no real chance to score.
After the change of ends the Slovaks dominated the field but to no avail, as it took more than 10 minutes before the first opportunity arose, when Tomic took a free kick, barely missing the crossbar. In the 55th minute of the game Fako escaped from a group of defenders, took a shot from 14 metres but the Belgian goalie saved. Not much later the Belgians missed a great chance when D’Erriko found himself in a good position in the box but by the time broke free of the defenders he was left with no room or time to score one. Then the Belgian defenders cleared a cross into the centre from the left from which Filinsky hit the crossbar, missing the greatest opportunity of the match so far. This was quickly followed by another chance, at the other end of the pitch. Receiving a cross from the wing D’Errico headed wide from a clear position on the six-yard line. The only goal of the match was scored in the 70th minute: Fako escaped with an excellent pass, got the Brugge goalie dive and miss within the box and then calmly tossed the ball over the goal line. No serious opportunities were witnessed during the last 10 minutes of the game, so the end result was:
Senica – Club Brugge 1-0 (0-0).
